Itapoa Reserve's mission is not only to educate everyone about the importance of rainforests, but also to protect and preserve untouched land from being destroyed forever by clear cutting. For this, Itapoa Reserve is raising money to purchase a new piece of land located at the beginning of the more pristine forest, so far the only access to the forest beyond.
By securing this very strategic piece of land we will discourage attempts to open new roads and prevent logging companies and palm plantations from destroying, by clear cutting, the deepest jungle.
But more importantly, by forever declaring it a protected forest, we will clearly send a message to international companies and recent settlers alike that the future of the worlds ecosystem relies on the preservation of our remaining natural rainforests.
HOW YOUR ADOPTIONS WILL HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
* Giving $25 protects 833 square meters. 1 hectare has 10,000 square meters. This size area is the sanctuary for hundreds of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and other organisms, many nearing extinction and others still unknown. It also produces enough oxygen for a family of 4 every day
* Giving $50 protects 1666 square meters. Along with the wildlife this would preserve thousands of species of plant life. These are the hopes for future cures for diseases which are killing millions throughout the world. It also provides 2,000 liters of fresh water per day.
* Giving $100 protects 3333 square meters or 1/3 of a hectare. Not only does it protect all the wildlife and flora, 1/3 hectare of rainforest absorbs 2 tons of CO2 in a year, the amount of CO2 emitted burning 800 liters of fuel, the amount of fuel an average driver uses in 100 days. If these forests were replaced by palms for bio diesel, the carbon absorption would be 90 percent less of what a natural rainforest provides.
* Giving $300 protects 1 full hectare or 10,000 square meters.
And that is one hectare of the 150 we hope to purchase at this time to protect forever.
You can visit your piece of the rainforest by going to google earth and putting in 0.521833174862044, -79.13605230281858 as the location coordinates. If you have the Google Earth plugin in your browser you can view the coorindates HERE. (Or Google Maps). Or you could come visit any time. After all, you have shared in the effort to save it. Also know that every dollar you give donate will go towards the conservation of precious land in the CHOCO REGION OF ECUADOR one of the most bio diverse places on the planet, it is a hotspot that has been impacted so severely that only 5% of it remains. Itapoa Reserve has a commitment to protect this rain forest in the name of all of you.
Thank you for saving a piece of paradise.
